HCR: Today's Wrap Up

Tonight the House completed consideration of the Pelosi Health Care Bill (H.R. 3962). The bill was adopted 220-215. Below is a summary of this afternoon’s votes on the bill.

The Stupak/Pitts amendment (Pro-life amendment) passed 240-193, with one voting Present.

All but one Republican voted yes, and 64 Democrats did as well.

The 64 Democrats were Altmire, Baca, Barrow, Berry, Bishop (GA), Boccieri, Boren, Bright, Cardoza, Carney, Chandler, Childers, Cooper, Costa, Costello, Cuellar, Dahlkemper, Davis (AL), Davis (TN), Donnelly (IN), Doyle, Driehaus, Ellsworth, Etheridge, Gordon (TN), Griffith, Hill, Holden, Kanjorski, Kaptur, Kildee, Langevin, Lipinski, Lynch, Marshall, Matheson, McIntyre, Melancon, Michaud, Mollohan, Murtha, Neal (MA), Oberstar, Obey, Ortiz, Perriello, Peterson, Pomeroy, Rahall, Reyes, Rodriguez, Ross, Ryan (OH), Salazar, Shuler, Skelton, Snyder, Space, Spratt, Stupak, Tanner, Taylor, Teague, and Wilson (OH).

The one Present vote was Shadegg. While supporting the amendment, he did this because he knew that if the amendment passed, it would give at least 3 or 4 Dems to Pelosi for Final Passage. Like it or not, it made lots of sense.

The Republican Solution failed 176-258 and the Republican Motion to Recommit failed 187-247.

On final passage the vote was 220-215. 219 Democrats voted yes as did one Republican. 176 Republicans voted no, as did 39 Democrats.

Pelosi did not post the bill 72 hrs before signing as promised and had to sneak it in a Midnight when most people were asleep. If it passes the Senate wait until young people realize they have to pay for insurance or receive fines.
